Gentlemen,

Welcome to the Autumn edition of the Blue & Blue for 2015. On July 28, the Old Boys’ Union celebrates the 50th anniversary for students of the Class of 1965 at the Rugby Club. A Mass preceding the luncheon will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, commencing at 10.30am.

No doubt Fr. Ray Chapman, Parish Priest of St. Patricks Church, would have had his hands full celebrating St. Patrick’s Day recently. So it was thought that this was better shared as a personal experience, with colleagues about drinking and driving, rather than impose on the good Father during confessional times.

As you know, some of us have been known to have brushes with the authorities from time to time, often on the way home after a "social session" with family or friends. Well, with St. Patrick's Day just over a week ago, this is what happened, as the story goes. Paddy was out for an evening with friends and had more than several beers followed by a couple of bottles of rather nice red wine, and then a few vodka shots. Although relaxed, he still had the common sense to know he was ...well... slightly over the limit.

That's when he did something he’d never done before: he took a taxi home. Sure enough on the way there was a police roadblock, but since it was a taxi they waved it past and he arrived home safely without incident. This was a real surprise to Paddy, because he had never driven a taxi before. He doesn't know where he got it, and now that it's in his garage he doesn't know what to do with it. So, anyway, if you want to borrow it for the next St Patrick’s Day, give him a call.

The next luncheon will be a gala affair as a special effort has also been launched by ex-President of the OBU, Kyran O’Donnell, “to bring together all those of the Classes of mid-1950s. Kyran (LC 1952) invites, all those who came in years surrounding the mid-50s, who had come occasionally or who have never attended an OBU Lunch, to seriously consider the next Lunch and spend a few hours reliving their youth,  recalling old times and, in some cases, having a drink with someone not seen for years or since walking out the gate into Darley Street for the last time". Enquiries for students of those years may be directed to Kyran at kyroseodonnell@bigpond.com

A tribute to Br. Charles Aquilina shall be made for his commitment to the Old Boys and to the Marist Brothers over the years, which still continues at Campbelltown and also a special reflection will be given for Old Boy, Fr. Ron Harden and others who have also recently passed on.

Meanwhile we celebrate March 30th with Fr. John Anderson (LC’63) as he does so, celebrating his birthday today with his congregation, in Iquitos, Peru. Hopefully Fr. Juan will be able to take time out to go fishing for piranha on the banks of the Amazon, on such a day.

Of course, as usual, the invitation is extended to all ex-students and teachers who attended MBHS Darlinghurst and any further enquiries may be directed to Bill Halcro, OBU Secretary on 9661 7710.

   Lost & Found:

Thanks to our resident historian and curator, Scott Coleman (MCC), recognition on our WW2 Honour Roll is given to the

 following men from MBHS Darlinghurst:

Denis John O’Dea (N78086)

James Quigley (Q90579)

Herbert John Joseph Rigney (NX102358)

John Lawrence Wright MC (N73766)

Details may be found at http://www.mbhsdarlinghurst.org/WW2_Honour_Roll.htm

Frank OÇonnor (LC’48) caught up in a phone call with old classmate Henry Tregillas, who recently moved from

Vancouver, Canada to Toronto. You have to be devoted to the cool weather to settle in Canada.

We received word from Frank O’Shea advising, “My wife and moved to Melbourne 12 months ago, so are out of touch with Marist Canberra. I had a good golfing friend Jeff Kyneur (LC’43) when I lived there, an OB of Darlo. He said he was in about Year 7 in 1939, but that was only a rough guess. I have heard since coming here that he has given up playing. I have lost his email since changing computers, but if he was an example of a Darlo boy, he did his old school proud.” Frank was lucky just losing an email address; I almost lost a wife once, changing computers. So, if somebody has contact details for Jeff, please advise Bill Halcro.
